More about Dr. Thomas
As part of Gladstone’s Bioinformatics Core, Dr. Thomas studies how epigenetic factors—which are non-genetic factors that impact a cell’s genetic makeup early during development—also affect how stem cells differentiate into the various and vital cell types throughout the body. A detailed understanding of how cells differentiate and mature is extremely important for developing stem cell-based therapies to treat major health problems such as congenital heart disease, diabetes and neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Prior to joining Gladstone as a Staff Research Scientist in 2011, Dr. Thomas held postdoctoral fellowship positions at the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute and the University of Washington. He completed undergraduate degrees in biology and architecture from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, before earning his PhD in molecular biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
